Thank you both for your input. I am trying to figure out the left side wiper blade assembly. I have been fixing a few minor maintenance items as the complete drive train and under-hood is as built 36 years ago. Even though I have a one-speed motor, it does look like what I think I need to make the wipers work. My wife and I recently acquired a 87 Camino in near survivor condition, 56K miles and a 7 year old 'Terminator' paint job. It is described as "Link Arm, Wiper Motor Transmission, 1966-67 GTO/Tempest/ LeMans, w/2 Speed Motor". So, do either of you know what is a good part number for the shorter (1 3/4 inch) arm? I did find what appears to be a shorter arm on the Summitt Racing site. The picture Rich sent of an arm 1 3/4 in long would allow the under-cowl linkage to operate as designed. I believe the problem causing the motor to rotate about 1/2 revolution, and then the linkage under the cowl jam, is that the motor arm is too long. When I turn on the motor from the switch it runs at one speed. Wiring in the car forward of the firewall matches the motor and all connections are correct. It is a rectangular, one-speed motor, that does have a washer attachment. It appears to be for a two-speed motor, with washer, because it has two clicks when turning it on. So, with what you both have told me, and what I am seeing in my car, this is what I am dealing with. I regret I did not try the wipers at the time of purchase, but it is too late for that now. With the info and pics, it looks like the guy that assembled my El Camino used a conglomeration of parts to fill the holes in the car, without regard for whether they were the correct parts or not. 1970-1983 Monte Carlo and 1973-1983 Chevelle, El Camino & Malibu NOS GM original. To get it all working as it should you'd need a two speed motor and a two speed motor mounting plate.ĭo you have any wiring around the wiper motor that has nothing to properly connect to? The two speed motor with washer has a lot more wiring to it. We could decode your cowl tag to determine what it may have had originally. Can anybody tell me where I can get a pair of wiper arms that will fit 73 Elky. I can help with the switch at least.īUT, since the car has a two speed switch and a transmission that doesn't work with a one speed motor, I'm guessing your car originally had a two speed motor with a washer. If the car isn't set up for a washer (squirter nozzles, tubing and a washer reservoir) then what you probably need is a one speed motor and a one speed switch. I have a one speed motor switch but it doesn't have provision for the washer activation. I don't know about the motor arm length but the two speed switch with a one speed motor is odd, but the two speed motors can be hard to find so not inconceivable that someone replaced a two speed motor with a one speed motor.
